Math: We have been learning about even and odd numbers, arrays with rows and columns and bar diagrams. Topic 2 was only 5 lessons so we will keep moving forward and take our second math test on Monday! The homework that went home will serve as a review for the test.
Spelling: We took our first spelling test last week over the first list of words. Any words that were not mastered on your child's list will be added to the second list of high frequency words. I will give this next week.
Writing: We are working on narrative writing, and focusing on one personal, small moment. We will zoom in on one scene of our story and work on adding details and juicy, attention grabbing words. We are having to review some basics such as punctuation.
Theme: We concluded our theme on families with the Grandparent's Tea, which went great! We will start in on a short "Pledge of Allegiance" theme next week.
Reading: We have just about mastered all 5 components of Daily 5: read to self, listen to reading, work on writing, word work, and read to someone. They know how all of these activities should look and what they should be doing and learning. What talk about what good readers and writers do, and have mini lessons on certain strategies. We've also had lessons on r consonant blends (tr, br, pr, etc.) and words with short vowels in the middle.
Upcoming Dates to Remember:
September 23: Day of Service- Call the office if you are interested in volunteering. We will be working from 1:00-end of school day.
September 27: Tiger Pride Assembly
